PRODUCT DESCRIPTION:

"Ahimsa" is a Sanskrit word that translates to noninjury or cruelty free. This Peace silk aka Ahimsa silk scarf has been made with handspun cruelty free silk dyed with natural dyes obtained from tea leaves. The scarf derives its name in the way silk is made from the silkworm as the worm is not killed in the process of fiber extraction. This silk scarf is handwoven by artisans on traditional looms in the North-Eastern state of Assam in India and natural colors are used in the dyeing process.

This is a sustainable fabric: Our fabric choices are based on The Environmental Benchmark for fibers and Life Cycle Assessments (LCA) of fibers. The partner vendor has published the first ever LCA for Peace Silk with preliminary data indicating that the carbon footprint of this hand woven Ahimsa silk is 0.65 Kg CO2.
